I started Gallery Reinvented in 2012 to support local artists in Toronto, Markham, and York Region. Through Gallery Reinvented I organize art events and installations in alternative spaces.
Want to get invited? I send out an email newsletter with art news, upcoming events, and calls to artists. I also include interesting art and creativity tips and resources that are enjoyed by artists, art-lovers, and creative people. Why Gallery Reinvented?
I created Gallery Reinvented to combine my background strengths and interests with my passion for Fine Art and community involvement. I offer a unique perspective an artist, collector, gallery facilitator, writer, community volunteer, recovering lawyer, and business operator.
As an an artist I know it can be hard for independent artists to successfully show and sell artwork . As a business operator I know it can be complicated and time-consuming to stage and support art and community events. I wanted to show artwork in a way that is a positive and mutually beneficial to artists and business owners.
Gallery Reinvented’s Mission & Goals
Mission of Gallery Reinvented: showing original art by local artists in community and business spaces
Vision of Gallery Reinvented is to:
- Provide opportunities for local artists to sell artwork.
- Support local charities through selling artwork. A percentage of art sales will go to local charities in the community where Gallery Reinvented artwork is shown.
- Expose high-quality original artwork and limited edition prints to people who wouldn’t usually visit art galleries or museums.
- Support business partners by enlivening their lobbies and business spaces with interesting artwork.
Gallery Reinvented integrates interesting, original art into unexpected places. Gallery Reinvented exposes people who don’t visit museums and galleries to the enriching experience of art. Business spaces are reinvented with an art sneak attack.
Past Gallery Reinvented Shows & Events
Gallery Reinvented art events and shows to date have taken place at the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre & Spa, eforea: spa at Hilton Toronto/Markham, Club Markham, and affiliated businesses.
I wanted to enliven the corporate hotel space where I work with interesting artwork and events.
Gallery Reinvented events have included art exhibitions, jewelry shows and sales, spa treatments, fitness classes, live DJ’s, and catered food.

Gallery Reinvented is a different business model that has been evolving as it progresses. The format of the art installations and events has changed with each show and project as I improve based on experience and attendee feedback. For instance, on the catering side I’ve tried passed food and drinks, buffet stations, and a cash bar.
On the art installation side, I’ve curated large group and two-artist shows. I’ve tried different areas of the hotel, fitness club, and spa to show the artwork and host the opening events. Examples include adding curated art to transition spaces like stairways, spa lobbies, and fitness clubs.
Benefits of Alternative Art Shows & Events
Showing artwork in alternative business spaces like a hotel exposes the art and the artists to new audiences. At the same time, the business gains potential new visitors and interest because of the artwork.
Clients of businesses showing local artwork typically appreciate the businesses’ support of local artists. These people may not otherwise encounter this artwork.
Gallery Reinvented art installations make use of places that are usually ignored. The stairwells, corners, and hallways that are usually bland and boring are made interactive and provocative with artwork.
Challenges in Running Gallery Reinvented
Exhibiting artwork in busy business environments presents different challenges than a traditional gallery space.
The artwork must work in the business space by engaging with visitors, business clients, and employees. The artwork also must not disrupt the flow of business.
Other challenges in running Gallery Reinvented include finding compatible artists with whom to work, and managing artist, staff, and client expectations.
A Different Kind of Art Show and Event
Gallery Reinvented is a different business model that has been evolving as it progresses. As I gained more experience with Gallery Reinvented art shows and events, I improved and changed Gallery Reinvented. I realized that relationships with artists are the most important element in running successful shows and events.
